Network printer installation failed

You told OP that you are glad they accepted your solution. This is not a one-time issue with this crap. I hope to God, someone with brains buys HP, or the whole company collapses.

There is absolutely NO reason for this to even be an issue. Thats when I tell HP its time to go to hell. For me, it's two strikes you're out. Here's a solution. Sorry to send this to you personally, but, [edit] in their ivory towers hide while send you guys to deal with the anger we should be directing to them. Probably not. If you do not see your language, it is because a hotfix is not available for that language. For more information about how to obtain a Windows 7 or Windows Server R2 service pack, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:. The global version of this hotfix installs files that have the attributes that are listed in the following tables.

The dates and the times for these files on your local computer are displayed in your local time together with your current daylight saving time DST bias. Additionally, the dates and the times may change when you perform certain operations on the files.

Important Windows 7 hotfixes and Windows Server R2 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, hotfixes on the Hotfix Request page are listed under both operating systems. Always refer to the "Applies To" section in articles to determine the actual operating system that each hotfix applies to.

GDR service branches contain only those fixes that are widely released to address widespread, critical issues. LDR service branches contain hotfixes in addition to widely released fixes. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature. Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This issue occurs if the printer driver that is installed on the print server is a third-party printer driver. You can't install a shared network printer that has a third-party printer driver locally on a Windows XP SP1-based computer if you're a regular user or a member of the Power Users group.

In Windows Server , you can't install a shared network printer locally if the printer driver that is installed on the print server uses third-party kernel-mode printer drivers. A policy setting in Windows Server prevents users from installing printers that use third-party kernel-mode print drivers. To resolve this issue, modify the Group Policy settings for the Group Policy object GPO that has printer policies defined for the domain users on the domain controller.

To do this, use one of the following methods. Make sure that the output of the NsLookup command contains the correct fully qualified domain name FQDN of the print server. If it is incorrect, you must contact the network administrator to resolve the DNS issue. This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully.

For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Hp keeps trying to use their own print processor but it's incredibly slow and intrusive. I've had problems with PCL6 drivers before. I'm apprehensive to change the driver, as it works on the other 40ish computers in the store, just not this one.

Is there any way to use the network printer on this machine with a different driver other than installing with the driver software? You should get a tab that says Drivers. The Drivers listing in the tree will give you the version info and the print processor and other stuff, but not the type.

I had to download it from HP, but tried installing as a local printer with an IP port, using the universal driver. Waited for a bit, then failed out with the same cannot connect to printer error.

Now we're getting somewhere. This looks like an unsigned driver issue. The problem is that the installer package can be signed, but the actual dll might not be and there are hotfixes that are known to interfere with this, particularly because this is a server environment. Also, make sure that you are doing a "run as admin" it's easy to overlook, but search results for: "Fault bucket , type 0 Event Name: PnPDriverImportError Response: Not available Cab Id: 0" return two common causes - driver signing, and admin permissions required during installation.

Same errors as before in the Print Service Section but not the windows errors, but also see this one. I find it to a be a screwy replacement for print driver redirect in RDS.
